Welcome Fall!

I hope you all had a good summer and are enjoying the beautiful cooler weather we have been having lately! The beginning of the school year is always so hectic and exciting, isn't it? Meeting new teachers, getting our school clean and set up for parents and students to come back, watching those school buses roll into the parking lot on the first day always makes me think of new beginnings, much more than watching a ball drop on New Years Eve. Though I've only been teaching for 9 years, my calendar has always run from Labor Day to Memorial Day. I even make New School Year resolutions!

This year, I have resolved to be organized both at home and at work and to help my coworkers by sharing and collaborating more. I've been looking for gadgets, apps and websites that will make my life easier and allow me to enjoy my precious free time. I also spent quite a bit of time this summer organizing my house, knowing that once school is in full swing, I'll be on the go until next summer!

Leadership Training in Goldsboro this summer was very informative and lots of fun. At that meeting, I had a chance to meet the new Presidents of the other Greenville DKG Chapters. After chatting for a while,  we realized that rather than redoubling our efforts and trying to work in isolation from each other, it would strengthen us all if we did more collaboration. I think this will be especially nice come Spring 2014 when we all have to work together as our Region 2 Chapters host the ETA State Convention. To kick off our new spirit of teamwork, we are planning a special event for the ILTs in October. I can't wait to share our ideas with you. :)

I look forward to seeing you all at our first Chapter Meeting of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at The Warehouse. The restaurant website is available at http://warehouserestaurant.net/ in case you would like to see the menu. Donna Ware and her friendly staff have been very accommodating to our group in the past and I am excited about going back.

As you may know, we have been using a Google Calendar on our website for the past few years. Since Pitt County Schools is now using Google for our email and document sharing,  I am busily helping my staff make a smooth transition and helping them utilize the entire family of Google Apps. We are in the process of finalizing our meeting calendar for the year and I will be sharing it with you soon. This weekend I will also be updating our website to include our new members and more links to important information and forms.

Since this is also the beginning of my stint as Chapter President, I thought I would ask for your input by way of a survey created, of course, using Google. To take the survey, go to http://goo.gl/yMLlt

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and expectations with me.  Your answers will help guide the direction of our Chapter in the future.  As always, if I can be of any help, just let me know!
